Train the Teacher Workshop, November 17^th -19^th 2011

On these three days all members from our schools came together and participated to learn about the environmental background. All team members and teachers studied environmental issues with a deep background and also they calculated the footprint, to get an idea what the students and teacher will have to do in the coming year. Beginning with the background of environmental issues, all members got into the specific terms and learnt about this.

Because the schools and the students have to calculate their carbon footprint for the green jersey, the teachers learnt how to calculate and count CO2 in their school and which possible options can reduce this. With movies and theoretical topics the teachers we had really good three days.

Now all members are very well prepared to start the following activities in January!

Kick-Off Workshop

Kick-Off Workshop, October, 15^th 2011

The workshop was conducted in order to concretize the pilot project concept by bringing together all stakeholders like the participating schools, local partners, and the project coordination. With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the major partners at the end of the workshop the pilot project was then formally launched. All representatives of the participating schools were invited to meet for the first time. For this purpose, every school prepared a short introduction of themselves and about activities they have already made with regard to environmental education. Moreover, representatives from the main partner organisation no2co2 explained the concept of EcoSlate and the Green Jersey Award. Teachers, Students and the Pilotproject Team worked together for the further adjustment and improvement of the project concept and to develop more ideas for upscaling of the project.

Teachers Day

Teachers Day (September, 5^th, 2011)

In India, there is one yearly event on the 5th of September, which is dedicated only to teachers. On Teacher's day, students across India dress up as their teachers and take lectures in classes that are assigned to the teachers they represent. Also, functions are organized in schools on the special day, where students present dance performances, dramas, and various other programs to entertain their teachers. This day provides for a healthy interaction between teachers and students as well.

 We gave a short interactive seminar beforehand to explore the existing knowledge on the topic and to convey our idea of participative peer-to-peer learning. For the actual event, the students prepared their topics self-reliantly with little support of the teacher. For the research they consulted their school books, newspapers, the internet, parents and peers, they prepared their own PowerPoint presentations, made posters for illustration and gained a lasting experience with the topic. 

 For utilizing the great opportunity of such an event, we addressed one of our partner schools for an intervention on this day, on which we asked the students of 9th and 10th to teach about the environment and climate change.

 

Activities!

In the  last months, a lot of activities have done with the three schools Saraswatha Academy Trust High School, Vishwa Bharati High School and SRI Aurobindo International School in Hyderabad!
